Kala Namak or Black Salt is pure and unrefined black salt with a unique, sulfuric taste. Kala Namak is also called the vegan egg substitute. However, this black salt has a pink color, created by preparation.
Kala Namak is one of the purest forms of salt and is highly appreciated by enthusiasts (including many vegetarians) and often called"The Salt of all salts". Despite the name "black salt" Kala Namak is not black in the form in which it is sold, but dark brown to gray / pink in color. This rock salt is extracted from very old underground deposits at the foot of the Indian Himalayan mountain.
The salt is often used in Ayurvedic recipes, such as in Chaats (Indian vegetable and fruit salads) and chutneys. It gives a special flavor to your dishes and is used to replace regular table salt. The salt has a sulfuric taste due to the sulfur-containing herbs in the preparation. The sulfur flavor has been compared to the taste of egg.
